Target audience
The type of person I aim to target is specifically people who enjoy video games made by Nintendo, specifically Animal crossing in this case and are most interested in the design elements of it. Animal Crossing is the kind of game that allows players to express their creativity and personal style through fashion designs and others, and the magazine would provide a platform for players to showcase their unique fashion ideas and creations and to gain more ideas. The magazine would also be appealing to people who are interested in fashion design, as it would look into the design process for the clothing and accessories featured in the game.
The psychometric audience profiles that this magazine would mainly be the Mainstreamer. This is because they are part of a like-minded group of people, which can be anyone in any kind of gaming community.
The spending power of this magazine will be high as it will be at an affordable, an ordinary price for a magazine, which would be around £5 but no more than £10 as this might make it less appealing to someone looking to buy it.
When looking at demographics, the ones that would mean the most for this would be age and gender. The age range which my magazine will be aimed at , and there will be no specific gender as this product is aimed to be gender inclusive, however may be more appealing to females.
Audience profile sheet
Purpose
The purpose of my magazine will be to educate and entertain, to give Animal Crossing players ideas on how to style their characters. As animal crossing has more of a niche community than Nintendo’s bigger games like Mario, it is less likely for the fans to find things like this relating to this game, so would grab their attention to look more into it. This magazine will also give more attention to the game.
My main inspirations for this magazine were seeing a lot of designs on Pinterest/Google where there is a character modeling the created the design, which made me think of them all being together in one place (like a magazine).
Form and Genre
Form: print magazine
Possible title ideas: Island Chic / Crossing Couture / Animal Vogue
Genre: Gaming (Hobbies)/Fashion
My magazine will be like a hybrid between both Gaming and Fashion, as the main theme of it is Animal Crossing but includes fashion design elements.
Content
Masthead – This lists important information about the publication, including the title, publisher and editor, etc. It is typically located near the top of the front cover.
Pull quotes – This is a part from an article which is highlighted and in a larger font size to draw attention to the reader to read the article.
Front cover – The cover of my magazine will mainly include one or two animal crossing characters wearing a design that I may create myself or find on the internet. One of them will be a bit higher up on the page than the other so will slightly be covering some of the masthead. As the title I’m leaning towards the most is Animal Vogue, I could make the cover look similar to an ordinary Vogue magazine.
Interview – The magazine could feature an interview with a fashion designer who creates clothing for the characters. This could be the main one from the game (Gracie Grace), or one of the design accounts online who make their own designs. These could include things like the designer's creative process, inspiration, and any challenges they might face.
Review – The magazine could also include a review of the latest game (New Horizons), focusing specifically on the fashion features. The review could cover topics such as the variety of clothing options available, the ease of customisation, and how the fashion aspect of the game can enhance its experience.
Contents Page – This contents page will have everything that would be in the magazine. This will include Interview with creator/fake one between characters from the game, fashion design ideas,
Double page Spread – The article which will be on this double page is the fashion ideas. This will include photos of characters from the game wearing original designs, text about inspiration and designing your own stuff.
Images – Since I can’t directly use images from the game, my main idea is to still take screenshots on the game and then trace over them in the correct software. The plan here would be to trace the basic outline and design of the characters, and then either do the same again but for the clothes they will be wearing or creating my own designs.
Font styles – The main idea for the font is to recreate the main fonts from the game, for example the one in the game’s logo/title and the one the player would see in the text bubbles when talking in game.
Resources – As tracing and drawing will be a major part of the design for my magazine, the software I need for this would be Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Ibis Paint, and I will likely be using a combination of or one of the three. For finding the correct layout and putting everything together, I will be using Adobe InDesign.
Personnel – Even though I am making this magazine myself, the roles that would be needed would include editors responsible for everything, artists for both the artwork within and the layout, writers for all of the content (in this case things like features, fashion tips, reviews), and photographers who would take photos of the characters and clothing in the game.
Depending on the size and scope of the magazine, additional personnel may be required, such as designers, illustrators, web developers, and social media managers. Additionally, it may be beneficial to have a fashion editor or consultant who can provide expertise on the latest fashion trends and styles.
